EMI/RFI shielding windows

The easiest way to make transparent shielded windows.
You can make shielded windows yourself, from standard displays, glass, acrylic, polycarbonate and plexus glass

EMI/RFI shielded Displays & Windows

We can apply the foil on glassor polycarbonate (Other materials on reques t)but we can also just deliver you the foil on roll or sheets.
We can deliver the foil with a self adhesive layer so that you can apply the foil on a window or display yourself.

What is mesh foil?

Mesh foil is a very fine wire mesh laminated between two layers of transparent foil. The wires are so fine that you can hardly see them. The foil is very strong but it still bends very easily.

The mesh, fully integrated in the foil, is protected by a scratch resistant layer and it is easy to apply onto glass, acrylic and polycarbonate, by hand or with a laminator. Depending on the mesh quality it covers anything between 10 kHz and 30 GHz. The finer the mesh, the more effective it is for reducing high frequencies. The foil can be delivered with flying mesh on the sides or around the foil. That means that a piece of the very fine wire mesh will not be laminated with transparent foil.

Mesh foil placed under the right angle | Click to see Moiré effect when mesh foil is not placed under the right angle

Example with and without mesh foil

The uncovered piece of wire mesh can be used to make an electrical connection with your enclosure.

Alternatively a conductive or non-conductive adhesive can be provided along the edges or there can be a silver bush bar around the circumference.
Aseal with a water/EMI gasket is another option. They mesh foil can be processed in various forms available:

  • stainless steel
  • blackened copper
  • phosphor bronze.

Type of window options

  • Wires placed under a custom angle to prevent moiré effect
on your display. (Standard is 0 degrees)

  • Mesh foil laminated on your window, or on a new window made
of polycarbonate, acryl or glass. In this option it is also possible
to laminate the mesh under a custom angle.

  • Mesh foil with or without transparent self adhesive used to
stick on any normal window or display.

SHEET STYLE 6

Mesh foil laminated between two plastic layers. On the left and the right side of the mesh foil there is a silver strip (bushbar) to make a perfect electrical connection with your enclosure.

Mesh foil mounting options

Mounting option 1

10 design tips for windows / displays and transparent foils

  1. Don'tbe afraid of low light transmission coefficients. An average pair of sunglasses has less than 9 % light transmission and you can still see very well through them.
  2. In general, a mesh foil provides higher shielding performance than an ITO coating.
  3. Keep the window as small as possible; rectangular windows are better than square windows because the distance from the centre of the window to the edge is smaller.
  4. Please inform us of the size in mm that you need and specify the free viewing area.
  5. It is cheaper to produce small windows so please specify quantities and sizes rather than square meters.
  6. For small windows or little displays you can use foils. It is best to integrate a foil in a display or to mount it onto the edges with copper tape 3201.
  7. We can provide windows with a water seal. Please indicate if you want the seal to be on the inside or outside of the window. It is also possible to have a separate water seal on the other side.
  8. If an anti-glare or optical coating is needed, please indicate on the drawing from which direction the user will look at it.
  9. Only use an anti-glare layer when the object is close to the window, like a monitor. For viewing windows it is better to use an optical coating.
  10. To prevent moiré-effects with mesh windows you can indicate the angle of the mesh. When you order a window you can ask us for a sample window and then measure the best angle yourself.
